Kansas City, Mo. - After an outstanding showing at the highly competitive Nebraska Graduate Classic this past weekend, sophomore Dayana Montenegro was named the Heart Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week by the conference office Monday.
The award marks the second-straight week that an Eagle has been recognized, as Kaitlyn Weber and Kailey Johnson earned Heart honors last week.
Montenegro, a sophomore from Cali, Columbia, placed fourth in the women's 400m dash with a time of 58.64 seconds. She then hit the NAIA 'B' Standard mark in the 600m run with a time of 1:37.30 to finish in fifth-place. Her time in the 600m not only hit the 'B' standard for national qualification but also broke the 21-year-old school record by more than a full second.
Montenegro and the Eagles will next compete in the NAIA/Juco Invitational, Saturday, Jan. 22 at 12:00 p.m. in Pittsburg, Kan.
