Wichita, Kan. - The Central Methodist track and field programs opened the New Year at the 2022 Friends Invitational Saturday in Wichita, Kan.
For the men, senior Taylor Bottomley broke his own school record in the weight throw at 20.21 meters, more than four meters better than second place. Fayette native Josh Henderson joined Bottomley on the podium with a third place finish at 15.68 meters. Bottomley also claimed victory in the shot put with a final toss of 16.15 meters.
Junior Parker Yager posted a second place finish in the pole vault at 4.15 meters.
In the running events, Brennan Moots finished fourth in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.38 seconds and Curtis Johns fifth in the 200-meter dash. Mohammed Nyaoga earned a second place standing in the 600-meter run.
On the women's side junior Kaitlyn Weber won the long jump with a final mark of 5.14 meters, along with a fourth place finish in the triple jump.
The Eagles swept the podium in the pole vault, as Carter Hawkins, Caroline Weatherford, and Amara Reichert finished 1, 2, 3 in the event. In addition, Lillian Patterson, Emalee Harris, and Baileigh Morris placed first, second, and third in the 3000-meter racewalk.
Aquila Mucubaquire placed second in the high-jump at 1.47 meters while Jessica Bailey finished second in the 400m dash with a time of 1:02.48 seconds.
Katherine Bangert finished third in the 1000-meter run with a new personal bet of 3:21.41. and Megan Aubuchon placed third in the 60-meter hurdles. Madeline Wieseman also posted a third place finish in the 800 meters.
Dayana Montenegro won the 600-meter dash in 1:39.24, and the 4x400m relay team of Jessica Bailey, Kailey Johnson, Wieseman, and Sakoya Johnson finished first in a time of 4:13.19.
Kailey Johnson and Jada Gaines finished 1-2 in the 60-meter dash in 7.88 and 7.95 seconds respectively.
Central will next compete in the Dutch Athletics Classic Saturday, Jan. 15 in Pella, Iowa.
