Fayette, Mo. - The Central Methodist track & field programs hosted their final home meet of the 2021 outdoor season, the CMU Invite, Friday and Saturday at Davis Field.
Senior thrower Taylor Bottomley continues to rewrite the CMU record books, as the Harrisburg, Mo. native broke the school record in the men's hammer throw with a final toss of 55.88 meters, bettering his national qualifying mark and earning a first-place finish. He also claimed the top spot in the shot put with a record-breaking throw of 16.43 meters, a school record, and good enough to hit the 'A' standard to qualify for nationals.
The duo of Shawn Kiptoo and Radovan Kemboi finished first and third in the men's 10,000m run in times of 32:04.40 and 32:44.44. Kiptoo also finished in fourth place in the 1500m run in 4:06.46.
In the 4x100m relay, Nehemiah Colyer, Curtis Johns, Adbulai Rashid, and Mohammed Nyaoga came in first place with a final time of 42.44. Nyaoga also won the 400m dash with a personal best of 48.53 and Brennan Moots finished second in the 110m hurdles in 15.77.
Senior Hayden Hackman completed the decathlon with a new personal best of 6,423 points, winning all 10 events and hitting the 'A' standard to qualify for the national meet. He is currently the No. 1 ranked decathlete in all of the NAIA.
The trio of Alexander Ayala, Colyer, and Moots finished 1-2-3 in the 400m hurdles, all setting new personal bests. The highlight of day two on the men's side came in the 4x400m relay, as the team of Brock Jackson, Khiry Rolan, Jack Schiffhauer, and Curtis Johns came from behind in the final leg to win in dramatic fashion with a time of 3:24.20.
On the women's side, Amara Reichert and Caroline Weatherford finished 1-2 in the pole vault with marks of 3.05 and 2.75 meters. Sophomore distance runner Katelyn Moeller posted a second-place finish in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 14:15.75. Fellow distance runner Lisa Sauter won the 10,000m run in a time of 39:19.20, 42 seconds better than second place.
The women's 4x100m relay team of Jada Gaines, Kailey Johnson, Mason Fitzgerald and Dyana Montenegro won the event in a time of 49:59. Johnson also finished second in the 100m hurdles in a new PR of 14.82 and won the 200m dash in 26.02 followed by Montenegro who finished third in 26.76.
Abbie Hale and Madeline Weiseman placed second and fourth in the 400m dash with times of 1:00.80 and 1:02.13. Jada Gaines and Mason Fitzgerald finished 2-3 in the 100m dash, and Keiara-Ashley Cunningham and Sarah Johnson posted second and third place finishes in the 400m hurdles.
The 4x400m relay team of Weiseman, Montenegro, Fitzgerald, and Johnson concluded the day with a first place finish in the event in a time of 3:59.60, 10 seconds better than the next best team.
CMU continues outdoor competition at the William Jewell D.G. Invite Saturday, April 10 in Liberty, Mo.
