Fayette Mo. - The No. 1 seeded Central Methodist Women's Soccer program survived a scare from No. 8 seeded Park in the Quarterfinals of the Heart of America Athletic Conference Tournament Saturday afternoon at Davis Field.
Central improves its overall record to 16-2-1, and punches its ticket to the Heart Semifinals for the sixth consecutive season. Park sees its season come to an end with a final record of 6-8-3.
The Eagles used a second half goal in the 62nd minute to just edge Park, 1-0.
Central's lone goal of the match came off the foot of freshman Giulia Rodrigues, off the assist from Laura Riesenbeck on a free kick. It marked Rodrigues' first career goal as an Eagle.
Central finished the match with 17 shots including eight on goal, compared to no shots for the Pirates. Rodrigues and Maria Cervello both finished the afternoon with four shots apiece, including three shots on goal for Rodrigues, and two shots on goal for Marcella Helena.
The Eagles will next host No. 5 seeded Clarke University in the semifinals, Tuesday, No. 8 at Davis Field. Central won the regular season matchup between the two sides by a score of 7-1 back on Sept. 17 in Dubuque, Iowa.
