Fayette, Mo. - The Central Methodist women's soccer program opened Heart Conference play with a 2-0 shut out of MidAmerica Nazarene University Wednesday night in Fayette, Mo.
With the win, Central improves to 5-2 and 1-0 in the Heart. MNU falls to 3-2 and 0-1 in conference play.
After 32 scoreless minutes of play, Sandra Jakobsen capitlized on an error by the MNU defense and slipped the ball past the keeper into the open net for the 1-0 lead. The goal marked Jakobsen's fifth goal of 2022 thus far.
Leading 1-0 coming out of halftime, Maria Cervello found Roneisha Frank on cross inside the box in the 53rd minute of play. The duo connected as Frank headed the ball past the far post to push the lead to 2-0.
That proved to be the final score as Central's defense would held MNU without a goal through the duration of the match.
Marcella Helena led CMU with four total shots including one shot on goal. Laura Riesenbeck tallied three total shots followed by Jakobsen with two.
Overall, Central finished the evening with 11 shots and three on goal, compared to eight shots and four on goal for the Pioneers.
Judit Gonzalez Oliveras earned her fifth win of the year, tallying four saves in 90 minutes of action between the posts.
Central will hit the road for a weekened matchup against Clarke University Saturday, Sept. 17 at 11:00 a.m. in Dubuque, Iowa.
