Riesenbeck's Brace leads No. 7 Central Past Spartans

St. Louis, Mo. - Led by a brace from senior Laura Riesenbeck, the No. 7 Central Methodist Women's Soccer team defeated Missouri Baptist Thursday night, 3-1 in St. Louis, Mo.

With the victory, Central improves to 4-2. The Spartans fall to 3-3-1.

Riesenbeck put Central on the scoreboard first on a free-kick that was deflected into the back of the net in the 14th minute of play. The Spartans would respond with a goal just three minutes into the second half to tie the match at 1-1.

Both sides would remain deadlocked until the 84th minute of play. Marcella Helena broke the stalemate on a goal via a free-kick from Kitti Torok to give Central a 2-1 lead.

Less than 30 seconds later, Riesenbeck would put the finishing touches on the match with a score from 20-yards out, leading Central to a 3-1 victory.

Helena led Central's offense with six total shots, with four coming on frame. Alicia Zamora added four shots including two on goal, while Riesenbeck's brace proved to be the difference maker in the match.

CMU finished the evening with 20 total shots, including 12 on goal, while holding the Spartans to just five shots with three coming on goal.

Judit Gonzalez Oliveras finished the evening with two saves in 90 minutes of action between the posts, earning her fourth win of 2022.
