Fayette, Mo. - The No. 3 ranked Central Methodist women's soccer program opened the 2022 campaign with a 4-0 shut out victory over Southwestern Christian University Saturday night at Davis Field.

After nearly a scoreless first half, senior Laura Riesenbeck sent a volley over the Southwestern Christian defense to Marcella Helena, who lofted the ball over the keeper for the first score of the night with just 24 seconds remaining.

Leading at the half 1-0, Central padded its lead just seven minutes into the second on a score from Sandra Jakobsen, with the assist coming from Maria Cervello and Celine Witt.

Less than six minutes later, Witt found herself in open space, slipping the ball past the keeper to push Central's lead to 3-0. The final score of the night came from Jakobsen in the 77th minute.

The Eagles' offense controlled the pace of the game from start to finish, tallying 24 total shots including seven on goal. Central's defense held Southwestern Christian to only two shots and one on goal.

Jakobsen led the way with eight shots taken including four on goal. The trio of Alicia Zamora, Helena, and Witt each finished the night with three shots apiece.

Judit Gonzalez Oliveras earned her first win in an Eagles' uniform, tallying one save in 90 minutes of action between the posts.

Central will next square off against Cumberlands Friday, August 26 in a neutral site matchup at Rush Soccer Complex in St. Louis, Mo.
