Columbia, Mo. - The Central Methodist women's soccer team shut out Columbia College, 2-0 in the Opening Round Championship match of the Columbia Bracket Saturday night in Columbia, Mo.
With the win, CMU improves its overall record to 21-1 and advance to the Final Site for the third-straight season. The Cougars see their season come to and end with an overall record of 18-4.
Central's first goal of the match came in the 21st minute from senior striker Andrea Villar, who was assisted by Roneisha Frank.
The Eagles would take a 1-0 lead into halftime, as the defense held the Cougars to only two first half shots.
Freshman Marcella Helena sealed the victory for the Eagles in the 84th minute, as she scored on a free ball inside the box. Central would go on to earn the 2-0 win.
CMU finished the evening with 26 total shots including 11 on goal. Helena led the offense with seven shots taken and four on goal. Frank tallied five total shots while Villar and Sandra Jakobsen recorded four each.
Central's defense held Columbia College without a shot attempt in the second half, and recorded their 18th shut out of the season.
The Eagles will have earned the No. 4 seed at the Final Site and will face No. 5 seeded Keiser (Fla.) in the national quarterfinals Thursday, Dec. 2 at 10:00 a.m. (CST) at the Orange Beach Sportsplex in Orange Beach, Ala.
