Overland Park, Kan. - Behind a last second goal from senior forward Andrea Villar, the No. 5 Central Methodist women's soccer team earned a thrilling 2-1 victory over No. 8 Oklahoma Wesleyan Wednesday afternoon in Overland Park, Kan.
The Eagles push their overall record to 15-1, while OKWU falls to 15-2.
Despite Central tallying 10 first half shots compared to just four for Oklahoma Wesleyan, both sides remained scoreless at the halftime break.
CMU jumped on the scoreboard first in the 52nd minute, as Roneisha Frank scored off the assist from Sandra Jakobsen to take a 1-0 lead. OKWU would even the match in the 74th minute with a score, and the contest appeared to be headed for extra time.
With 59 seconds remaining in regulation, an Oklahoma Wesleyan foul just outside the box gave Central a free-kick opportunity. Villar took the free-kick and sent a shot curling to the top right corner just out of reach of the OKWU goalkeeper, finding the back of the net for the game winner.
CMU's offense controlled the pace from start to finish, as the Eagles recorded 20 total shots and 14 on goal compared to just six shots and three on goal for OKWU.
Frank paced the CMU front line with seven shots, five on goal, including her eighth goal of the season early in the second half. Both Villar and Jakobsen recorded four shots, while Villar tallied her 21st goal of the year, and Jakobsen dished out her 16th assist of the season.
