Women's Soccer matches highest national ranking at No. 5

Women's Soccer matches highest national ranking at No. 5

Kansas City, Mo. - Riding a six-match winning streak, the Central Methodist Women's Soccer team jumped three spots to No. 5 in the latest NAIA Women's Soccer NAIA National Coaches' Top 25 poll, announced Wednesday morning.

Other Heart school's featured in the Top 25 include No. 16 Missouri Valley and No. 23 Benedictine.

This matches the program's highest national ranking in school history, as the Eagles were also ranked No. 5 on three different occassions during the 2019 season.

Senior midfielder Andrea Villar leads the Central offense and is No. 2 in the nation in goals scored (17), and No. 4 in points (37). Sophomore midfielder Sandra Jakobsen is also second in the NAIA with 13 assists.

The Eagles have notched Top 25 wins over Columbia College and Benedictine, and have shut out eight of their 10 opponents so far in 2021. Their only loss this season came against, at the time, No. 7 ranked Marian by a score of 2-1 on Sept. 8 in St. Louis.

Central continues conference play with a matchup against Baker University Saturday, Oct. 9 at 8:00 p.m. at Boonville High School in Boonville, Mo.

To view the poll methodology and the complete Top 25 poll, please see below.

Poll Methodology

  • The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences, Continental Athletic Conference (Independents) and Unaffiliated Groups.
  • The Top 25 is determined by a points system based on how each voter ranks the best teams. A team receives 30 points for each first-place vote, 29 for second-place and so on through the list.
  • The highest and lowest ranking for each team (a non-rating is considered a low ratings) is removed and the team's ranking will be recalculated with an additional point added to each team for every ballot (including discounted ballots) that the teams appears on.
  • Teams that receive only one point in the ballot are not considered "receiving votes."
