Springfield, Mo. - Behind Andrea Villar's second-straight four goal match, the No. 8 CMU women's soccer team cruised to a 7-1 victory over the Evangel Valor Wednesday night in Springfield, Mo.
With the win, Central improves to 6-1 overall and a perfect 3-0 in the Heart, while Evangel falls to 3-5 and 0-3 in conference play.
After the first 19 minutes of action were scoreless, Valor took a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute of an error of the Central defense. However, the Eagles responded with three goals of their own in the next 20 minutes, all coming from Villar. Alicia Zamora added the fourth and final goal of the first half on the assist from Laura Riesenbeck, giving Central a comfortable 4-1 lead at the break.
Just two minutes into the second half, Villar scored her fourth goal of the match via Sandra Jakobsen. Marcella Helena and Maria Cervello recorded goals in the 63rd and 69th minute of play, making the final score 7-1 in favor of the Eagles.
Villar led the offense with four goals on eight shots with six coming on goal. Roneisha Frank finished the evening with seven shots and two on frame, while Jakobsen dished out two assists as did teammate Kitti Torok. Riesenbeck, Joya-Maria Azzi, and Helena each collected an assist as well.
Overall, the Central offense recorded 42 shots and 21 on goal compared to two shots and one on goal for the Valor. The 42 shots taken are the most by CMU in a single match so far this season.
Through just seven games this year, Villar has collected 15 goals, nearly doubling her career best of eight during the 2020-21 campaign.
Central concludes its three-match road trip against William Penn University Saturday, Sept. 25 at 3:00 p.m. in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
