CMU Women's Soccer sweeps Heart Player of the Week honors

CMU Women's Soccer sweeps Heart Player of the Week honors

Kansas City, Mo. - For the second time in 2021, Central Methodist women's soccer swept the Heart Player of the Week awards, as Andrea Villar was named Offensive Player of the Week, while Laura Riesenbeck earned Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Villar was recognized after stellar outings against both Culver-Stockton and Mount Mercy. The Madrid, Spain native scored the game winner against the Wildcats on a penalty shot, finishing the evening with seven total shots.

She recorded her second hat trick of 2021, scoring four goals and an assist against Mount Mercy in an 11-0 victory. Villar now has 11 goals in only six matches.

Riesenbeck, a junior from Beverstedt, Germany, led CMU's backline to two shut out victories. She also scored the game winner over Mount Mercy in only the second minute of play Saturday.

Central's record is now 5-1 and 2-0 in the Heart. The Eagles will continue road action with a matchup against Evangel University Wednesday, Sept. 22 at 5:00 p.m. in Springfield, Mo.
