St. Louis, Mo. - The No. 7 Central Methodist women's soccer team dropped a tight contest to No. 4 Marian by a final score of 2-1 Wednesday afternoon in St. Louis, Mo.
It marks Central's first loss of the season, as they fall to 3-1, while the Knights improve to 6-1 overall.
Marian jumped out in front first with a goal in just the ninth minute of play to take a 1-0 lead, as the Eagles would enter halftime trailing by a goal.
However, in the 67th minute of action, sophomore midfielder Kitti Torok sent a ball into the box which fell to Roneisha Frank, who flicked the ball past the keeper into the back of the net for the goal and tying the game at 1-1.
It appeared the match was headed for extra time when the Knights scored on set piece with just seven minutes remaining. The Eagles were unable to respond in the final moments, as Marian would go on to edge Central 2-1.
The Eagles offense outshot Marian, 14-4. However, all four of the Knight's shots came on goal. Reigning Heart Player of the Week Andrea Villar led the Central offense with three shots including one on goal, while Torok, Marcella Helena, and Frank all collected two shots apiece.
Central returns home to host Bethany Saturday, Sept. 11 at 11:00 a.m. at Davis Field.
