Fulton, Mo. - The No. 7 Central Methodist women's soccer team started the 2021 campaign off with authority, defeating William Woods by a final score of 4-0 Wednesday evening in Fulton, Mo.
With the win, the Eagles have now claimed victory in their season opener in five of the last six seasons.
After an own goal by the Owls in the 18th minute of play, less that 20 seconds later senior forward Andrea Villar recieved a cross from Sandra Jakobsen, scoring her first goal of the year and giving Central a 2-0 lead just 19 minutes into play.
The remaining 26 minutes of action were scoreless before the Eagles struck with just seconds remaining in the first, courtesy of a goal from Kaia Randklev. Central entered the halftime break with a comfortable 3-0 lead.
CMU kept the offensive push in the opening 10 minutes of the second half, as Jakobsen once again found Villar who scored in the 56th minute, extending the Eagles lead to 4-0, which proved to be the final score.
Central controlled the offensive pace from start to finish, recording 24 shots compared to just two for the Owls. Villar led the offense with a brace on six shots and three coming on goal.
Carlotta Baldo and Randklev each recorded four shots and three on goal, while Randklev scored her first goal in an Eagles' uniform in just 25 minutes of action.
Jakobsen finished the evening with three assists, marking the fifth time the Svendborg, Denmark native has recorded a multi-assist game in her career.
CMU returns to Fayette for their home opener against No. 12 Columbia College Wednesday, Sept. 1 at 7:00 p.m. at Davis Field. It is the first meeting between the two sides since August 28th, 2013, when the Cougars claimed a 5-0 victory over the Eagles in Columbia.
