Foley, Ala. – The No. 8 Central Methodist women's soccer team is set to begin their run at the NAIA National Championship, squaring off against No. 9 seed John Brown in the first round Tuesday afternoon in Foley, Ala. The Eagles enter the championship with a 20-3 record while the Golden Eagles are undefeated with a 14-0 record.
Central punched their ticket to the final site after defeating College of Idaho and Indiana Wesleyan in the opening round. So far this season, CMU has defeated seven ranked opponents, including No. 5 Marian, No. 10 Indiana Wesleyan, No. 12 Oklahoma Wesleyan, No. 14 Grace, No. 23 Missouri Valley, (RV) Benedictine, and (RV) College of Idaho.
Central leads the NAIA in three statistical categories including total assists (84), total goals (104), and total shutouts (16). Anika Kallash is ranked No. 2 in the NAIA in five different categories, including total goals (29), game winning goals (7), goals per game (1.53), total points (72), points per game (3.79). Sandra Jakobsen is fifth in total points (54), total assists (14) and total goals (20).
The Golden Eagles earned a spot in the dance after winning the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament. They then punched their ticket to Foley after defeating Baker and Oklahoma Wesleyan in the opening round. JBU played three teams that were mentioned in the latest coaches' poll including, No. 12 Oklahoma Wesleyan, No. 19 Baker, and (RV) Mid-America Christian. John Brown is in the for the top 10 in three different statistical categories.
Central and John Brown will face off Tuesday, April 27 at 1:00 p.m. in Foley, Ala. The winner will face No. 1 seeded William Carey (Miss.) on Thursday, April 29 in the quarterfinals.
