Women's soccer cruises past Mount Mercy

Fayette, Mo. - The Central Methodist women's soccer team closed out their 2020 home schedule with a 12-0 win over Mount Mercy Saturday afternoon at Davis Field.

Central improves to 8-2 overall and in the conference, while the Mustangs fall to a 1-9 and 0-9 in the Heart. CMU has now scored 12 goals for the second time in its past three matches.

The first goal for the Eagles began with Maria Cervello, who crossed the ball into the box and found Elly Boothe for the first score of the day in the 10th-minute play. Less than 30 seconds later, Sandra Jakobsen played a pass-through to Anika Kallash who scored her first goal of the night.

In the 16th minute, Boothe played a cross in and found Nely Martinez, who fired it past the keeper to give Central a 3-0 lead. The fourth goal of the afternoon was scored once again by Kallash, heading in a cross from Boothe. Kallash collected her second hat trick in the last three matches after she converted on a free ball inside the box.

After an own goal by Mount Mercy, CMU added its seventh goal after Lidia Vicente de Vera scored on a cross from Chyler Hahner.

The Eagles finished the first half with 29 shots with 15 being on frame. CMU would take a 7-0 lead over Mount Mercy at the halftime break.

Central came out of halftime with the same pace, and in a span of four minutes, scored three more goals. The eighth goal came in the 53rd minute after Boothe sent a cross into the box to Andrea Villar, who headed it into the back of the net. Boothe added her second goal of the afternoon after floating a ball over the head of the keeper, pushing CMU's lead to 9-0. In the 54th minute, Kallash scored her fourth goal of the night after a pass from Sandra Jakobsen.

Kallash returned the favor to Jakobsen in the 58th minute, extending the lead to 11-0 Kallash closed out the scoring for the Eagles after receiving a pass from Villar for her fifth goal of the match.

Kallash had an outstanding game, finishing with 10 shots, seven on goal, five goals, and one assist. The five goals scored tied the single-game program record, originally set by Nicki Noreen back in 2014. The senior now has 14 goals on the season, good for second in the conference. Kallash also leads the Heart in assists, shots, and shots on goal. Villar and Martinez both recorded eight shots and a goal. Boothe finished with five shots, four being on goal, three assists and two goals.

The Eagles will travel to Des Moines, Iowa on Wednesday, Nov. 11 for a matchup against Grand View University beginning at 3:00 p.m.
