Women's soccer claims Heart Player of the Week honors for second straight week

Fayette, Mo. - For the second consecutive week, the Central Methodist women's soccer program swept the Heart Player of the Week awards, as announced by the conference office Monday afternoon.

The Eagles won their four and fifth consecutive wins this past week with a pair of victories against Missouri Valley College and Park. Central edged the Vikings in double overtime 1-0 on a last-second free-kick and cruised past Park 12-1 Saturday night.

Sophomore Laura Riesenbeck took home her second consecutive defender of the week honor, as the Beverstedt, Germany native led the Central backline in giving up only three shots with none coming on frame in the 1-0 double OT win over MVC. In the Eagles' convincing win over Park, the backline gave up only three shots, and three on goal, with the Pirates' lone goal coming on a penalty kick late in the game. Through the two wins, Central allowed on average three total shots and 1.5 on goal.

Senior forward Anika Kallash earned her first offensive player of the week award after a stellar performance against Park Saturday night. The Troy, Mo. native posted her first hat-trick of the 2020 season against the Pirates. In addition to her three goals scored, Kallash set new career highs in assists (4), shots (9), shots on goal (9), and total points (10). Her four assists tied the program single-game record, originally set in 2013. Kallash currently sits at No. 2 in the NAIA, and No. 1 in the conference in total assists (10) this year.

Central will next take on Culver-Stockton College on Wednesday, Nov. 4 at 3:00 p.m. in Canton, Mo.
