Offense explodes as Eagles defeat Park 12-1 on senior night

Fayette, Mo. – The Central Methodist women's soccer team won its fifth straight game Saturday night, defeating Heart newcomer Park University by a score of 12-1 at Davis Field.

The Eagles improve their record to 6-2 overall and in conference play, while the Pirates fall to 2-8 overall and in Heart action. Prior to the match, the program honored seniors Nely Martinez, Andrea Villar, Anika Kallash, Elley Boothe, Oliva Gonzales and Sara Cobollo as part of senior night festivities.

The Central offense started the scoring early, and in the 8th minute of the game, Kallash received a ball on a breakaway. She dribbled into the box and made the connecting pass to Martinez who opened up the scoring. Less than five minutes later, Martinez took a corner kick and Boothe headed the ball into the back of the net, giving CMU a 2-0 lead. Martinez added her second goal of the night after a cross from Sandra Jakobsen was deflected by Kallash. Gonzales scored her first goal of the season and fourth of the evening for Central after Jakobsen dribbled down the line and made the cross for her to put the ball in the back of the net.

The next score came in the 32nd minute as Kallash dribbled into the box and found Jakobsen for her first goal of the night. Before going into halftime the Eagles pushed their lead to 6-0, as once again Kallash assisted Jakobsen who dribbled around the keeper for the score.

CMU finished the first half posting 18 shots, with 15 coming on frame. Park finished the first 45 minutes with two shots on goal.

Central started the second half with the same pace of play, scoring three goals in just six minutes. The Eagle's seventh goal came with Jakobsen returning the favor to Kallash. Three minutes later, Kallash added her second goal of the night and the eighth for the Eagles, this time after a cross from Boothe. In the 51st minute, Maria Cervello scored her second career goal and CMU's ninth after a beautiful shot in the upper right corner of the net. Kallash closed out her first hat trick of the season after stealing the ball from a Pirate defender and firing a shot past the keeper, stretching the lead to 10-0. Five minutes later, Jakobsen closed out her first career hat trick on a cross by Kitti Torok. The Pirates scored their lone goal of the night after a converted penalty kick in the 66th minute. The last goal of the night started with freshman Alicia Zamora, who played a ball over the defense and found Cobollo, shooting over the keeper for her first goal of the year.

Central finished the game with a season-high 37 shots and 32 on frame. Kallash led the Eagles' offense with nine shots, with eight coming on goal, including three goals and a new career-high four assists. Jakobsen followed with six shots, five on goal, three goals, and three assists, all of which are career bests for the freshman. Boothe collected one goal and two assists on five shots taken and four on goal.

The 12 goals scored were the most by a Central team since the 2017 season, when the Eagles shutout Hannibal LaGrange, 14-0.

Sophomore goalkeeper Sheila Sanchez played 68 minutes between the posts, picking up two saves, and giving up just one goal. Jessie Holton played the final 22 minutes of game action.

The Eagles will travel to Canton, Mo. to face Culver-Stockton on Wednesday Nov. 4 at 3:00 p.m.
