Women's soccer duo takes home Heart Player of the Week honors

Fayette, Mo. - The Central Methodist women's soccer duo of Sandra Jakobsen and Laura Riesenbeck were named the Heart of America Athletic Conference Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, as announced by the conference office Monday afternoon.

The Eagles picked up a pair of big wins over Evangel and William Penn, shutting out both Heart foes by scores of 6-0 and 7-0 respectively.

Jakobsen, a freshman midfielder from Svendborg, Denmark, had career days against the Crusaders and Statesmen this past week, scoring a career-high two goals in each of the Eagles' wins. Overall, Jakobsen recorded 10 total shots with six coming on frame highlighted by four goals.

Sophomore defender Laura Riesenbeck led Central's defense to back-to-back shutouts, limiting their opponents to just three total shots (one on target). Central has now won three-straight matches, all of which have been shutouts. The offense has also scored five or more goals in each of the last three matches.

The Eagles now stand at 4-2 overall and in conference play heading into their matchup Missouri Valley College Wednesday, Oct. 28 at 5:00 p.m. in Marshall, Mo. Central is seeking its third straight win against the Vikings.
