Offense propels Eagles to 7-0 win over William Penn

Fayette, Mo. – The Central Methodist women's soccer team was back in action at Davis Field Saturday evening, defeating Heart foe William Penn by a score of 7-0.

The Eagles improve their record to 4-2 overall and in conference play. The Statesmen fall to 2-9 and 1-8 in Heart action. Saturday's 7-0 shutout marks the third-straight game the Eagles have defeated their opponent by five or more goals.

CMU started the game off fast, as in the 9th minute of play, senior midfielder Elly Boothe played a ball into the box and found Kitti Torok who fired the ball past the keeper for her first career goal as an Eagle, giving CMU a 1-0 lead.

Less than ten minutes later, Anika Kallash found Sandra Jakobsen on a breakaway. The Svendborg, Denmark native took advantage of the one-on-one matchup with the goalkeeper, slipping the ball past to give CMU its second goal.

In the 19th minute, Boothe played a ball over the defense which found Kallash, who converted on the opportunity to extend CMU's lead to 3-0. Three minutes later, Kallash returned the favor and crossed a perfect ball to Boothe who came in and fired the ball in the back of the net.

The Eagles entered halftime with a 4-0 lead, and the offense collected 17 shots with 13 being on goal in the first half.

The fifth goal of the night came after Jakobsen was fouled inside the box and a penalty kick was awarded to the CMU. Senior midfielder Andrea Villar converted on the PK, scoring her third goal of 2020.

Sophomore Maria Cervello added to the Eagles' offense, as the Barcelona native recorded her first career goal on a deflection in the box by Kitti Torok in the 62nd minute. Jakobsen finished the count for Central after receiving a ball played over the defense by Cervello, firing past the keeper to make the scoreline 7-0.

The Eagles finished the evening with 26 shots taken and 19 coming on goal. Kallash led the team with eight shots, six on target, and one finding the back of the net. Jakobsen followed with six shots and four being on target, including two finding the back of the net. Kallash and Boothe finished the game with two assists each, while both Cervello and Torok added a goal and an assist respectively

The Eagles will next face Missouri Valley College Wednesday, Oct. 28 at 5:00 p.m. in Marshall, Mo. Central is seeking its third straight win against the Vikings.
