Fayette, Mo. - The Central Methodist University women's soccer team won their second consecutive game, defeating Evangel by a score of 6-0 Wednesday night at Davis Field.
With the win, the Eagles improve to 3-2 overall and 3-2 in the conference, while the Crusaders fall to 6-4 and 4-4 in Heart play. Tonight's win marks CMU's sixth consecutive victory over Evangel, dating back to the 2015 season. It is also the third time this season CMU has outscored its opponent by more than five goals.
CMU started off fast, and just three minutes into the game, a corner kick that was deflected by Anika Kallash landed at the feet of Elli McCabe. McCabe then fired the ball past the Crusader keeper for her first career goal as an Eagle.
The CMU offense continued to roll after the first score, posting ten shots prior to halftime. The first half finished with the Eagles leading the Crusaders 1-0.
The second half started off fast once again for the Central, as Sandra Jakobsen hit a beautiful shot from the top of the box past the keeper, giving the Eagles a 2-0 lead in the 49th minute of the game.
A little over 10 minutes later, Andrea Villar played a ball over the defense to find Kallash, who headed the ball in the back of the net to extend the Eagles lead to 3-0.
After a penalty inside the box by the Crusaders, Elly Boothe was awarded a penalty kick and converted to put CMU up 4-0. Central added to its lead after Villar received a pass out wide and crossed it into Zoe Jessen, who scored her first goal of the year. Jakobsen closed out the scoring for the Eagles, collecting her second goal of the night after receiving a pass from Kallash and dribbling past two Crusaders defenders, and firing the ball past the keeper.
As a team, the Eagles recorded 28 shots and 14 on goal compared to just two for Evangel and one on goal. Kallash led all players with eight shots, followed by Villar with six. Boothe and Jakobsen collected four shots each.
Sheila Sanchez started in goal and picked up her third win of the season, playing the first 84 minutes between the posts.
The Eagles are back in action when they host William Penn, Saturday, Oct. 24 at 8:00 p.m. at Davis Field.
