Fayette, Mo. - The Central Methodist women's soccer team bounced back with a 5-0 shutout win over MNU Wednesday night at Davis Field.
With the win, the Eagles push their record to an even 2-2, while MNU falls to 2-3 overall and 2-2 in Heart play. The 5-0 victory marks the second time this season CMU has defeated an opponent by that margin.
The Eagles started the match strong, taking control of the ball in the opening minutes. The first goal of the night came after Anika Kallash received a pass out wide and dribbled past the defender for a cross into Sandra Jakobsen, scoring her second goal of the year in the 16th minute. The first half finished with CMU holding a 1-0 advantage over the Pioneers. Central outshot MNU 9-4 in the opening 45 minutes.
Just five minutes into the second frame, Jakobsen returned the favor, finding Kallash who dribbled past the keeper and put the ball in the back of the net for her first goal of the night. The third goal for Central came in the 57th minute, beginning once again off the foot of Jakobsen, who played an outstanding ball to Kallash. Kallash fired the ball into the back of the net for her second goal of the evening, giving CMU a 3-0 lead.
The Eagles' fourth score came on an own goal by the Pioneers after a MidAmerica defender deflected the ball into their own net. Senior Andrea Villar, collected the final goal of the night for the Eagles, finishing off the offensive play after Kallash's cross was deflected by the goalkeeper.
As a team, the Eagles offense recorded 17 shots with eight coming on frame, compared to the Pioneers who finished with nine shots and three on goal. Kallash led the offense with five shots, with three coming on frame, highlighted by two goals and two assists. Villar added four shots with two on goal and a goal scored.
Sophomore goalkeeper Sheila Sanchez finished the day with two saves in 86 minutes of action in goal for the Eagles.
The Eagles next head out on the road for a Sunday showdown against Clarke on Sunday, Oct. 18 at 1:30 p.m. in Dubuque, Iowa.
