KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Luci Brasil (JR/Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) and Rachel Topliss (SR/Walsall, England) picked up honors with the announcement of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) 2018 Women's Soccer All-America Teams, released by the national office on Tuesday evening.
"I am so happy to see Luci and Rachel get recognized as All-Americans," said head coach Dan Schmidlin. "These two girls had outstanding seasons."
Both players were named Honorable Mention All-Americans. For Brasil, it's her second straight year earning the distinction. Brasil anchored a defense in 2018 that only allowed six goals in conference play, consistently deflecting balls out of danger in the back end.
"Luci has been a great leader on our backline for the last three years," Schmidlin said. "She is very good at organizing and communicating to her teammates."
For Topliss, her career concludes with her first All-American honor. From the midfielder position, Topliss scored six goals and registered six assists, while consistently setting up the Eagles attack for success.
"Rachel is our most versatile player and she was asked to play a lot of positions for us this year," added Schmidlin. "She did an excellent job and accepted the challenges that go along with each position."
Brasil and Topliss are the third and fourth All-Americans in program history, joining Brasil and Judith Sainz (JR/Pamplona, Spain), who received the honors last season.
The two players were the captains of a team that finished 16-6, made the finals of the Heart Postseason Tournament and qualified for the NAIA Women's Soccer National Tournament Opening Round for the second straight season.
