CANTON, Mo. - The No. 24 Central Methodist University women's soccer team defeated Culver-Stockton College 1-0 on the road to open conference play in a game that went down to the wire.
"I'm very proud of our effort tonight," stated Head Coach Dan Schmidlin. "Culver is a tough place to play and it is a good rival game. Always a tough battle and I'm super happy we came away with the win. It was definitely well deserved."
Both teams remained scoreless at the end of regulation, forcing Central Methodist into their second overtime game in a row. Elly Boothe (SO/Silex, Mo.) had the game winning goal at 91:53 in a play that was initiated by a corner kick from Rachel Topliss (SR/Walsall, England).
The Eagles outshot the Wildcats 13-7 overall and 8-2 in the SOG category. Judith Sainz (JR/Pamplona, Spain) led the offensive attack with four shots, followed by Kayla Deaver (FR/Lee's Summit, Mo.) with two. Ashlynn Freeman (JR/Moberly, Mo.) earned the shutout in the box with two saves.
Tonight's win moves Central Methodist to 6-2 on the season and 1-0 in the Heart. Culver-Stockton drops to 4-2-1 on the season and 0-1 in conference play.
