KANSAS CITY, Mo. ---- The No. 13 nationally ranked Central Methodist women's soccer team remained unbeaten in Heart of America Athletic Conference play with a 6-0 victory over Avila University on Tuesday afternoon.
NOTES
• This win over Avila marks the fourth time this season Central Methodist has outscored its opponent by six or more goals.
• Central Methodist improved to 9-0-1 (4-0) on the year, while Avila fell to 0-10 (0-4).
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Rachel Topliss finished the match with a game-high two goals, and also added an assist.
• Sara Cobollo added her first career goal in the 54th minute of the match.
• Judith Sainz added her tenth goal of the season with an assist, and has scored in six consecutive matches.
• Luci Brasil added a goal and an assist as Melissa Fuentes tallied the final score for Central Methodist. Sophie Reynolds added her first assist of the year as well..
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Neither team was able to get score after the first 40 minutes of play, however Central Methodist held Avila to just one shot in the first half.
• Seconds before the half-time whistle, Brasil launched a shot from over 35 yards out to put Central Methodist ahead 1-0.
• Central Methodist came out of the break with a 1-0 lead, and added five goals in the second half.
• The first came just seconds into the second half on a successful PK from Sainz.
• Cobollo added her first career goal less than ten minutes later on an assist from Brasil. Topliss added her two goals in the final fifteen minutes of play. The first was assisted by Sainz, and the second by Sophie Reynolds.
• The final goal was scored by Fuentes in the 86th minute of play on an assist from Topliss to give Central Methodist the 6-0 road victory over Avila.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Central Methodist totaled 22 shots with 14 on goal in the match.
• Avila managed four shots with three on frame.
• Central Methodist held the advantage in corner kicks over Avila 10-1.
