FAYETTE, Mo. – Fourteen members of the Central Methodist University women's soccer team continued the annual tradition of giving by once again donating their time to the Fayette Food Pantry distribution service, which gives food to those less fortunate here in the Fayette community.
The team, which donates its time each spring to help in this effort, was represented by seven student-athletes at the service on Feb. 21 and seven others March 7 to help load grocery bags with items. The food is bagged at the facility and then the Fayette Food Pantry seeks to distribute hundreds of essential grocery items to those in need, in order to aid with basic needs and necessities.
The Food Pantry distributes items every other Thursday for two hours. The Lady Eagles helped to fill approximately 250 grocery bags with food each spring when they donated their time to this effort.
"This is a great experience for our girls to really see how many people struggle in life," said CMU head women's soccer coach Dan Schmidlin. "It shows them how thankful they should be for everything that they do and that their parents have been able to provide them with.
"College is a great opportunity that not everyone gets, and it's nice to be reminded of that. This service saw the CMU women's soccer team demonstrating excellent teamwork off the field."
