Eagles Shutout William Penn 4-0

Fayette, Mo. – The Central Methodist University women's soccer team shutout William Penn University on Sunday afternoon, by a final score of 4-0. The shutout, is the eighth this season for Central Methodist.

With the victory, Central improves to 10-1-2 overall and 4-1-2 in Heart of America Athletic Conference play. With the loss, William Penn falls to 4-7-1 overall and 2-4-1 in The Heart.

Central Methodist got off to a slow start on Sunday, as the offense had a tough time break through, against a tough William Penn defense. In the 15th minute, CMU broke through when Rachel Topliss (SO/Walsall, England) found Nicki Noreen (SR/Bartlett, Ill.) for the game's first goal. The goal was Noreen's 15th of the season, tying her and CMU's season high for a single player in one season; at 15 goals.

Just six minutes later, the CMU offense attacked against. This time, freshman Judith Sainz (FR/Pamplona, Spain) found Kylie Thwing (FR/Troy, Mo.) to make it 2-0 Central. The Eagles would take that lead into halftime.

In the second half, Central got on the board in the 60th minute, when freshman Judith Sainz buried a shot. The goal, was Sainz's 14th goal of the season; just one goal behind Nicki Noreen for the team lead.

Luci Sauerbronn (FR/Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) closed out the scoring for CMU in the 84th minute, when she scored on a penalty kick. The goal put CMU ahead at 4-0.

Central goaltender Ashlynn Freeman (FR/Moberly, Mo.), recorded her eighth shutout of the season. Freeman made three saves in 90 minutes of action.

Central returns to the pitch this Wednesday, when they host MidAmerica Nazarene University; whom are currently receiving votes in the latest NAIA Top 25 Coaches' Poll. Wednesday's game is scheduled to start at 5pm at Davis Field.
