CMU Women's Soccer Sweep Weekly Conference Honors

CMU Women's Soccer Sweep Weekly Conference Honors

Fayette, Mo. – The Heart of America Athletic Conference announced Monday afternoon their weekly player of the week award winners, with two Central Methodist freshman earning the honors. Judith Sainz (FR/Pamplona, Spain) was named The Heart's Offensive Player of the Week, while goalkeeper Ashlynn Freeman (FR/Moberly, Mo.) was named The Heart's Defensive Player of the Week.

"I truly believe that anytime we get a player of the week, it is a team effort," said CMU head women's soccer coach Dan Schmidlin. "Having said this, I am super proud of both Ashlynn (Freeman) and Judith (Sainz). They are both great players that have had great starts to their careers. Judith has now scored in all seven games and Ashlynn has six clean sheets to start her career."

Forward Judith Sainz and goalie Ashlynn Freeman have had incredible starts to their collegiate careers. Due to their impacts this season, CMU has started the season 7-0 and 1-0 in conference play. Sainz finished last week, with three goals and one assist in two games played. She leads the team with 12 goals in seven games played, and that ranks her third in the entire NAIA in goals scored this season.

Goalie Ashlynn Freeman, recorded two more shutouts last week, to take her record to 7-0 in net. The net-minder made five saves in 180 minutes played last week, while recording her fifth and sixth shutouts of the season. Freeman has allowed just two goals this season, putting her goals against average to 0.290. That ranks Freeman sixth in all of the NAIA.

CMU returns to action tomorrow (Tuesday) evening, to host Avila University at Davis Field. The women will get things started at 5pm, followed by the men's match at 7:30pm.
