Fayette, Mo. – The Central Methodist University women's soccer team opened Heart of America Athletic Conference play on Saturday evening, with a 3-0 victory over Graceland University at Davis Field.
With the victory, Central Methodist improves to a perfect 7-0 and 1-0 in The Heart. With the loss, Graceland falls to 0-4-1 overall and 0-1 in The Heart.
The first half Saturday, featured great defense by both teams, as neither squad were able to get a goal on the scoreboard.
Freshman Judith Sainz (FR/Pamplona, Spain) for the Eagles broke the tie in the 49th minute, when she found the back of the net off a pass from Taylor Nealy (SO/Troy, Mo.). Sainz would score her second goal of the evening just 10 minutes later, on a breakaway pass from Rachel Topliss (SO/Walsall, England) to make it 2-0 in favor of CMU.
Nicki Noreen (SR/Bartlett, Ill.) put the icing on the cake for the Eagles, adding a goal in the 63rd minute off a pass from Lady Tiriat (SR/Bogota, Columbia), to seal the 3-0 victory.
In the win, Judith Sainz and Nicki Noreen combined to take 14 of the 15 shots for the Eagles in the match. The freshman Sainz, now has scored 12 goals in seven games.
Freshman goalie Ashlynn Freeman (FR/Moberly, Mo.) pitched her sixth shutout, in her seventh collegiate appearance, and is now a perfect 7-0 between the pipes. Freeman made stops on all five shots she faced Saturday. She has only allowed two goals this season, both came in the match at Lindenwood-Belleville University.
The Eagles return to action Tuesday, when they host Avila University at 5pm at Davis Field. Following the match, the Avila men will face CMU at 7:30pm.
