Eagles Fall In Opener At Mount Mercy

Eagles Fall In Opener At Mount Mercy
Cedar Rapids, Iowa The Central Methodist University Eagles got down early on Tuesday afternoon and were unable to come back in a season opening 2-1 loss to Mount Mercy University in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

With the loss, the Eagles fall to 0-1 on the young season, while Mount Mercy improves to 2-1 on the season.

The Mustangs got on the board first Tuesday 27 minutes into the contest, when Megan Hall found the back of the net to make it 1-0 in favor of Mount Mercy. The goal was unassisted.

After taking a 1-0 lead into halftime, Mount Mercy didn't waste any time in the second half, as just 59 seconds into the second half Cally Salter scored a goal assisted by Annie Feltes to make it 2-0 in favor of the Mustangs.

Central Methodist tried to fight back. The Eagles got on the scoreboard for the first time in 2015, when Nicki Noreen found Ana Gonzalez for a goal to make the score 2-1 in favor of Mount Mercy. CMU was unable to score again and Mount Mercy would go on to win the game by the final of 2-1.

CMU continues their season opening roadtrip this weekend, with games at Tabor College on Friday and Friends University on Saturday. The Eagles open the home portion of their schedule a week from today, September 1st when Hannibal-LaGrange comes to town. Game time is set for 5pm at Davis Field.
