Canton, Mo. - The Central Methodist Men's Cross Country program opened up the 2024 campaign at the Great River Open Friday evening in Canton, Mo.
The event, which took place at River Valley Community Golf Course, featured three teams including CMU, Hannibal-LaGrange, and host Culver-Stockton College.
Central landed four of the top five runners at the meet, led by meet champion Doriye Jackson. The senior ran the 5K in a time of 15:37.24. Teammate Kyle Newberry placed third in 15:50.86.
The next three runners to cross the finish line for CMU were Grant Engel (4th - 16:00.33), Meshack Kiptanui (5th - 16:37.98), and Elliott Reed (8th - 17:49.62).
Quest Weller, Ross Brackman, Jacchaeus Taylor, and Isaiah Barg also ran for the Eagles.
Altogether, CMU scored 21 total team points, followed by Culver-Stockton with 40 and Hannibal LaGrange 76.
Central will next compete at the Larry Young Invitational Friday, Sept. 20 in Columbia, Mo.
