Baldwin City, Kan. - The Central Methodist men's and women's cross country teams competed in the 2020 Heart of America Athletic Conference Championships Saturday morning at the Baldwin Golf Course in Baldwin City, Kansas.
The event, hosted by fellow Heart team Baker University, featured Benedictine College, Central Methodist, Clarke, Culver-Stockton, Grand View, Graceland, Evangel, MidAmerica Nazarene, Missouri Valley College, Mount Mercy, Park, Peru State, and William Penn.
The women finished in eighth place while the men placed 10th out of 14 teams.
On the women's side, sophomore Madeline Wieseman posted a Top-25 finish out 0f 116 runners, completing the 5K in a time of 21:08.74, followed by senior Lisa Sauter, who finished 30th with a time of 21:21.29 in the final meet of her career.
The third runner to cross the finish line for the Eagles was Katherine Bangert, finishing 44th in 22:06.60. Katelyn Moeller and Sarah King rounded out Central's top five finishers. Also competing for the Eagles were Kailey Johnson and Lilian Patterson.
Kelsi Huhndorf of Mount Mercy took home the women's individual championship with a time of 19:14.71, 21 seconds faster than the next fastest time. Benedictine College won the team title with 35 total points, as all five runners placed in the Top-10.
Radovan Kemboi became a three-time All-Conference runner, placing fifth in a time of 26:49.48 in his final collegiate race. Following Kemboi was freshman Exavier Coburn with a time of 30:39.48 for 55th place. Zy'Shonne Cowans, Jack Schiffhauer, and Matthew Barker made up the final three runners for CMU's top five. Corwin Gentry and Elliott Reed rounded out the Eagles' top seven runners.
Jackson Caldwell of Baker won the individual championship, while the Wildcats also claimed the team title. All five BU runners cracked the Top-10, finishing with 31 team points. To view results from both races, please see below.
