Central Cross Country Sweeps Heart Weekly Awards

Fayette, Mo. – The Heart of America Athletic Conference announced their first set of weekly awards on Monday, with Central Methodist University men's and women's cross country sweeping the weekly honors.

Senior Allyson Ng (SR/Kansas City, Mo.) from the women's team, and freshman Elliot Knernschield (FR/Jefferson City, Mo.) from the men's squad, were named The Heart Cross Country Runners of the Week.

Allyson Ng led the Eagles to their first win of the season, as they captured the Eagle Invitational this past Saturday. Ng finished in third place individually, with a total time of 15:11.71.

"It was great to see Allyson (Ng) run so well on Saturday," said CMU Director of Cross Country Mark Nelson. "She has been battling injury issues for a number of years, but so far she has been healthy and you can really see the difference in how she is running."

On the men's side, freshman Elliot Knernschield led the Eagles to a victory in the Eagle Invitational this past Saturday as well. In his first collegiate race, the young Eagle won the race with a final time of 17:04.54. The next closest competitor to Knernschield finished ten seconds behind him.

"I was really pleased to see Elliot (Knernschield) compete so well in his first collegiate race," said CMU Director of Cross Country Mark Nelson. "He was able to beat a senior who has traditionally run very well on our course. I am excited to see what he will accomplish this season."

The Eagle men and women are off this weekend, before returning to action on Saturday September 10th at 10am, when they host the annual Gary Stoner Invite at the Fayette Golf Course.
