FAYETTE, Mo. - Dakota Shoemaker has signed a National Letter of Intent and will compete for the Central Methodist men's cross country and track and field teams in 2013-14, coach Chris Sandefur announced.

Shoemaker is a standout at Humansville High School in Humansville, Mo. For the Eagles, he will compete in the 8K in cross country and 5K and 10K on the track.

"Dakota had one of the best senior seasons in the state this past fall," Sandefur said. "Dakota is the kind of student-athlete you want on your team. He's focused academically and has a lot championship racing experience. Dakota will make a big impact on our team right away. He has natural athletic ability and strong leadership skills."

Shoemaker has posted personal records of 4:36 in the 1,600 meter run, 9:54 in the 3,200 meter run and 16:24 in the 5K. He finished fifth in the Cross Country Class I State Championship in 2012 and sixth in 2011.

Shoemaker joins Brennan Cape in the 2013 Signing Class.

Central Methodist finished fourth in the 2012 Heart of America Athletic Conference Men's Cross Country Championship race.

The Eagles, who have won the Jim Green Invitational and Knox College Open in the last two weeks, participate in the HAAC Indoor Track and Field Championships Friday and Saturday at Graceland (Iowa).
