Men's Results
ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Central Methodist University women's and men's cross country teams opened the season Saturday at the Washington University Early Bird.
The Lady Eagles placed sixth out of 17 teams with 179 points, while the men's team finished seventh out of 15 teams with 224 points. Each team was the top NAIA�finisher in�its field.
"The women's team�was just trying to get its feet wet but executed the race plan well,"�cross country coach Chris Sandefur said. "They were trying to negative split the race. Elise Schreiber worked very hard over the summer, and she was able to step up for us and have a very good meet. I told Taylor Beaverson�at the beginng of the�the day I thought today would be hers, and she ran strong for us."
Schreiber finished 23rd overall in 16:09. Taylor and Amber Beaverson placed 26th and 36th, respectively, in times of 16:10 and 16:26.
"The men's team came in and made a statement that it's a team others are going to have to be worried about," Sandefur commented.�"Colby Lapresi, the top returner from last year, took care of business today. Chris Renteria stepped up and showed he could be one of the top freshmen in the area."
Lapresi was 22nd overall�after finishing the race in 20:14. Renteria placed 29th�with a time of 20:28. Tyler Meierarend finished third on the team and 50th overall in 21:16.
The Eagles will compete in the Central Missouri Invitational on Friday, Sept. 7.
