Kansas City, Mo. - An incredible week of play that began with conference recognition has now been catapulted to the national stage for sophomore defender Rimon Beyene.
The native of Frankfurt, Germany, was named the NAIA National Defensive Player of the Week after leading the Eagles to two Top 25 victories, including No. 25 Missouri Valley and No. 21 Clarke.
It marks the first national player of the week honor for the program since Sept. 24, 2019, when Daniel Hernandez earned offensive honors.
Beyene anchored the backline to two shutout wins, in which the defense allowed, on average, just five shots/game.
He also recorded an assist on CMU's second goal against Clarke on Saturday.
The Eagles are currently 4-2-3 overall and 2-1-2 in the Heart of America. Central is tied for fourth place in the Heart regular season standings.
They will next play Missouri Baptist on Wednesday, Sept. 24, at 7:30 p.m. at Davis Field.
