Fayette, Mo. - The Central Methodist Men's Soccer team earned an upset win over rival and No. 25 nationally ranked Missouri Valley College Wednesday night at Davis Field.
The Eagles improve to 3-2-3 and 1-1-2 in the Heart of America. MVC falls to 1-3-2 and 0-2-1 in conference action.
It marks Central's first win over Missouri Valley since Oct. 11, 2023, when they shut out the Vikings 3-0 at home.
The first half was a defensive battle, with MVC holding just a slight shot advantage over CMU, 4-3. The Vikings had more opportunities at set pieces compared to the Eagles, earning four corner kicks compared to zero for CMU.
Central's offense saw more chances in the second half, firing off six shots. Ilhan Dervisevic provided the game winning goal in the 75th minute of play, his first of the year. He was assisted by Robin Vandewalle.
Despite the Vikings tallying 12 shots for the match, only three of those shots landed on target.
CMU goalkeeper Niccolo Cabras made three saves, playing all 90 minutes between the posts and earning his third win of the year.
The Eagles will close out their four-match streak of playing Top 25 opponents when they trave to Dubuque, Iowa to take on No. 21 Clarke University Saturday, Sept. 20 at 3:00 p.m.
