Fayette, Mo. - The Central Methodist Men's Soccer team fell in its home opener to St. Louis area school Harris-Stowe State University by a score of 2-1 Tuesday night at Davis Field.
Central falls to 0-1-1 on the season, while the Hornets improve to 1-1-0.
HSSU capitilized on two defensive miscues, scoring back-to-back goals in less than 90 seconds to take a 2-0 lead 36 minutes into the match.
Less than two minutes later, a corner kick from Rimon Beyene found Matteo Giora in the box. Giora headed the ball, which snuck past the keeper for the score to cut the deficit in half.
Coming out of the halftime break trailing 2-1, Central's offense outshot Harris-Stowe 14-3 and tallied five corner kicks compared to none for the Hornets.
Despite the increased offensive pressure, CMU was unable to find the back of the net in the final 45 minutes of play, as Harris-Stowe escaped with the win.
