Men's Soccer Ties Ottawa in Season Opener

Ottawa, Kan. - The Central Methodist Men's Soccer program secured a 1-1 draw against Ottawa University in the season opener Friday evening in Ottawa, Kansas.

Ottawa wasted no time scoring, as the Braves converted a penalty kick in just the third minute of action. OU drew a second penalty in the first half, but junior goalkeeper Niccolo Cabras made the save to keep the defecit at just one.

Less than a minute later, newcomer Robin Vandewalle scored the first goal of the year for Central to tie the game at 1-1.

Central looked like they scored the game winner in the closing minutes of the match, before it was called back due to being offsides.

The Braves outshot Central 16-3 and 8-1 in shots on goal. Cabras made seven saves in between the posts to help preserve the season opening tie.

Central will host Harris-Stowe State for their home opener Tuesday, August 26 at 7:00 p.m. at Davis Field.
