Fayette, Mo. - The No. 22 Central Methodist Men's Soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss to Mount Mercy University Saturday night at Davis Field.
With the defeat, Central falls to 9-2-1 and 3-2-1 in the Heart of America. Mount Mercy improves to 4-6-1 and 1-4-1 in conference play.
The lone goal of the match came in the 66th minute of play on a penalty kick for the Mustangs. CMU desperately tried to find the equalizer late, but were unsuccessful as MMU took home a 1-0 shut out.
It was a defensive battle for a majority of the match, with a number of shots fired but very few on target for both sides.
Central outshot MMU 14-6 but put just four of those shots on frame. Mount Mercy had three shots on goal.
Central will head out on the road for a non-conference matchup against William Woods Thursday, Oct. 10 at 7:00 p.m. in Fulton, Mo.
