Dubuque, Iowa - The No. 1 Central Methodist Men's Soccer program secured a 1-1 draw against Clarke University Saturday afternoon in Dubuque, Iowa.
The Eagles now stand at 3-0-3 and 0-0-2 in conference play, while the Pride move to 3-0-2 and 0-0-2 in Heart action.
Central's offense jumped out in front quickly with a goal from Koen Schimmel in the fifth minute of the first half, with the assist from Kevin Rivera.
The Pride evened the score less than 12 minutes later on an unassisted goal from Jonathan Velasquez. Central and Clarke entered the halftime break even at 1-1, which proved to be the final score, as neither side was able to break through in the second half.
CMU's offense was able to fire off 17 total shots, including six on frame. The Pride finished the match with only six shots and three on goal, but were able to hold off Central's powerful offensive attack.
Schimmel earned his first career goal as an Eagle, and finished the match with five shots and two on goal to lead the offensive charge.
Stefano Campisi added three shots, including two on goal. Vitor Antelo, Tom Irion, and Jeremiah Johnson tallied two shots apiece.
Goalkeeper Beer De Vos recorded two saves against three shots on goal in 90 minutes of action between the posts.
Central will next face No. 6 Missouri Valley College for a huge showdown Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 7:30 p.m. in Marshall, Mo. The Eagles swept last year's head-to-head matchup with the Vikings in both the regular and postseason.
