Tulsa, Okla. - The No. 3 seeded Central Methodist men's soccer program began their regular season with a 0-0 tie against No. 11 Tulsa University Friday evening in Tulsa, Okla.
Prior to tonight's matchup, Central also battled the University of Memphis in a 4-2 exhibition loss Wednesday in Memphis, Tenn.
It marks the first and second matches of a three-game stretch against NCAA Division I opponents for CMU.
"Wednesday's matchup against Memphis was a great opportunity for both teams to play their rosters and learn a great deal about our teams," stated Head Men's Soccer Coach Alex Nichols. "It was a very good match against a tough Tiger's side minus the last 90 seconds of play with two goals scored by Memphis.
Central bounced back with a 0-0 draw against No. 11 nationally ranked Tulsa Friday night. CMU held a powerful Hurricane's offense to only five shots on the evening, with three of those shots coming on goal.
As a team, the Eagles matched Tulsa with five shots including two on frame.
Senior forward Guilherme Pereira led the team in shots, totaling three with one shot on goal. The duo of Matheus Stork and Stefano Campisi contributed to the effort with one shot on goal each.
Central's goalkeeper Yannick Schoeni added to the defensive effort with three saves in his first regular-season career start between the posts.
"Having only nine days of our student athletes on campus prior to this trip, we are happy with many aspects of our team. We certainly have a great deal to work on and are a long ways away from where we want to be. We learned a lot from two very well respected teams!"
The Eagles return to action against Western Illinois Thursday, Aug. 25 at 5:00 p.m. in Macomb, Ill.
