Kansas City, Mo. - After finishing the 2020 campaign with a national semifinal appearance, the Central Methodist men's soccer program garnered four NAIA All-Americans, as announced by the national office this week.
Freshman defender Tom Irion was tabbed as a First Team All-America selection. Irion had a stellar season, as the Stuttgart, Germany native was named the Heart of America Conference Freshman of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year. Irion led Central with 11 goals scored and anchored the defensive backline to 12 shutouts, good for No. 2 in the nation.
Fellow Freshman Stefano Camerlengo earned First Team All-America honors after finishing the year with a 19-2 record between the posts. The native of Pescara, Italy appeared and started in 21 games as Central's primary goalkeeper. In addition, for his efforts in the national tournament, Camerlengo was named to the all-tournament team. Camerlengo earned Heart First Team All-Conference honors and allowed only 19 goals while picking up 44 saves on the year. His 19 wins are the third-most in a single season in program history.
Junior defensemen Marcos German reached All-America status for the second straight season, as he was named the second team. German made 19 starts on the backline, scoring four goals and leading the team with nine assists.
Carlos Scheckermann was the final Eagle to land earn All-America honors, as he was selected as a third-team member. Scheckerman appeared in 23 games with 22 starts, finishing the year with six goals and five assists. He collected 43 total shots and 21 on goal, both good enough for second on the team.
CMU concluded the season with its third straight trip to the national tournament as well as its third trip to the NAIA National Championship semifinals. The Eagles claimed both the conference regular-season and tournament titles for the second consecutive year.
