Men's soccer announces 2021 spring schedule

Fayette, Mo. - After clinching their third straight Heart of America regular season championship this past fall, the No. 1 Central Methdoist men's soccer team has announced its 2021 spring schedule in preparation for the conference and national tournament. 

The six game game slate includes three NCAA Division I opponents and three fellow NAIA members who are either nationally ranked or receiving votes. 

Central opens the spring with a match against NCAA opponent Drake University at a location yet to be determined on Saturday, March 6 followed by a home matchup against (RV) Mid America Christian on Tuesday, March 9 at Davis Field.

The Eagles will then open up a three game road trip with a short drive to Kansas City to face NCAA member UMKC on Friday, March 12. Returning back to the NAIA, CMU will battle No. 5 ranked Oklahoma Wesleyan Saturday, March 20 at 3:00 p.m. in Bartlesville, Okla. in a makeup date from the fall season. The final road contest will be against Western Illinois in Macomb, Ill. on Sunday, March 28. 

The regular season finale will take place at either Battle High School or the Boonville Soccer Complex against Bethel (Ind.) on Friday, April 2. 

The two-time defending national champions are riding a 32 game winning streak dating back to September of 2019, the third longest streak in NAIA history trailing only Lindsey Wilson (33 from 2011-12) and Hastings (39 from 2010-11). Central will enter the spring season leading the NAIA in total shutouts (7) and No. 5 in total assists (37) and total goals (45). 

As the No. 1 seed, Central will host throughout the duration of the conference tournament beginning with the quarterfinals on Saturday, April 10. Followed the Heart tournament, CMU will an NAIA Opening Round beginning on Thursday April, 17.
