Men's soccer duo sweeps weekly conference awards

Men's soccer duo sweeps weekly conference awards

Fayette, Mo. – After two conference wins this past week, the men's soccer duo of Tom Irion and Christian Sanchez was named Heart of America Athletic Conference Players of the Week. Irion took home defensive player of the week honors, while Sanchez was named the offensive player of the week.

Irion was an important piece both on both sides of the ball in the victory against MidAmerica. The Stuttgart, Germany native, scored the lone goal of the match and was part of the defense that held the Pioneers to only three shots on goal. He also assisted Christian Sanchez in the game-winning goal against Clarke Sunday afternoon.

Sanchez had his best performance in a CMU uniform so far, posting two goals against the Pride in a 9-0 shutout while adding an assist. Overall, the Bogota, Colombia native collected four shots and one on goal against the Pioneers, and six shots with five on goal against the Clarke. He posted new career highs in points (5), goals scored (2), assists (1), shots (6), and shots on goal (5), all coming against the Pride.

CMU is now a perfect 4-0 overall and in conference play. They will next host Heart foe Evangel University on Wednesday, Oct. 21 at 7:30 p.m. at Davis Field. The match will also serve as senior night where the 2020 men's soccer senior class will be honored at halftime of the women's game.
