No. 3 Eagles Steamroll Grand View

FAYETTE, Mo. – The No. 3-ranked Central Methodist University men's soccer team posted a dominating performance on Saturday afternoon after defeating a physical Grand View team, 7-0, on Davis Field.

Right off the bat, the Eagles imposed their will, scoring four first-half goals to set the tone. In the 17th minute, Victor Luengo (SO/Madrid, Spain) blasted a ball into the back of the net on an assist from Christian Sanchez Ortiz (FR/Bogota, Colombia). Less than two minutes later, Fabio Tarnowski (SR/Avigliana, Italy) gave the Eagles a two-goal cushion with a header off a corner kick.

After that, Rodrigo Paredes (JR/Asuncion, Paraguay) and Daniel Hernandez (SO/Bogota, Colombia) each picked up two goals before Jayton Johnson (FR/Columbia, Mo.) finished up the scoring in the 83rd minute. Several Eagles picked up assists, including Johnson, Luengo, Marcos German (SO/Madrid, Spain), Junior Kazeem (SR/London, England), and Rian Marques (SR/Itabuna, Brazil).

Vince Gelei (SR/Dunakeszi, Hungary) and Harry Poritt combined forces in the net to maintain the clean sheet. Gelei picked up four saves, while Poritt snagged one.

The Eagles held a 20-10 advantage in shots, including 12-5 in shots on goal. Central also held a slight advantage in corner kicks, 4-3.

Up next for Central is another conference test against (RV) Benedictine on Wednesday, Sept. 25 at Davis Field. Kick-off is set for 7:30 pm.
