OSKALOOSA, IA - The No. 13 nationally ranked Central Methodist men's soccer team defeated William Penn University Saturday night at Lacey Sports Complex, to improve to 7-1-2 in Heart of America Athletic Conference play.
NOTES
• Central Methodist is now 11-2-2 on the year, as William Penn fell to 9-6-1 (5-5).
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Leonardo Ferri (SR/Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) added a goal with one shot and one shot on goal for his second score of the week.
• Guzman Pery (FR/Madrid, Spain) collected his second goal of the week as well, and finished with three shots and two on frame.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Through the first half, the match remained scoreless as Central Methodist led with eight shots, while William Penn tallied two. Going into the half the score remained 0-0, despite the possession being in favor of the Eagles.
• In the 47th minute of play, Central Methodist answered quickly as Perry put a shot into the back of the net on a free kick to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead.
• Less than a minute later, Central Methodist scored again off the foot of Ferri to put the Eagles ahead 2-0. Vac Claudio earned the assist on the cross.
• Central Methodist finished the match with a 2-0 lead to capitalize on its road win over William Penn, despite the game ending early due to the severe weather in the area.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• The Eagles outshot the Statesman 12-9, and led 6-1 with attempts on goal.
• Both teams split on corner kicks with five each during the match.
