Four Eagles Named To All-Heart Teams

Fayette, Mo. – The Heart of America Athletic Conference announced their 2016 All-Conference Men's Soccer Teams on Tuesday afternoon, with four Eagles earning the honors. Central Methodist midfielder Adrian Gutierrez (SO/Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain) was named to the 1st Team, while Ricardo Olaya (JR/Bogota, Colombia) and Jackson Darnell (SO/Perth, Western Australia, Aust) earned spots on the 2nd Team, and Joseph Oswin (FR/Bath, England) was named to the 3rd Team.

"We are extremely excited about these well-deserved awards for Ricardo (Olaya), Joe (Oswin), Jackson (Darnell), and Adrian (Gutierrez)," said CMU head men's soccer coach Alex Nichols. "Each one of these players has worked very hard for these awards and have earned these awards. We are a little disappointed a couple others didn't receive (the award), but that is how these things go sometimes."

Coach Nichols continued, "At the end of the day, the four recipients of these awards would tell you these awards are a means of the 11 guys working their tails off to achieve a common purpose, and we still have a lot to achieve this year!"

Adrian Gutierrez was one of four midfielders named to The Heart's First Team on Tuesday. Gutierrez finished the regular season with five goals and a team high nine assists. Gutierrez also led the team with 40 shots during the regular season and was a perfect 1-for-1 in penalty shots.

Forward Jackson Darnell and midfielder Ricardo Olaya both earned spots on the Second Team. Darnell leads CMU with 10 goals on the season and also has one assist. Olaya has five goals scored to this point and two assists. He is also ranked in a tie for third on CMU with 12 points on the season.

Defenseman Joseph Oswin earned a spot on the All-Heart's Third Team. Oswin started in 17 of the 18 matches he appeared in this season, while scoring a goal and dishing out three assists.

Central begins play in the 2016 Heart of America Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Postseason Tournament this coming Saturday November 5th. The Eagles are the #4 seed in the tournament, and will host the #5 seed Missouri Valley College. Saturday's match is scheduled to begin at 2pm at Davis Field.
