(RV) Ravens Upset (#20) Eagles Late 3-2

Atchison, Kan. – The (RV) Benedictine College Ravens men's soccer team scored with two minutes and ten seconds remaining on Wednesday evening, to defeat the 20th ranked Central Methodist University men's soccer team by a final of 3-2 in Atchison, Kansas.

With the loss, the 20th ranked Eagles fall to 11-5-1 overall and 7-4 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference. With the victory, (RV) Benedictine College improves to 10-3-1 overall and 9-2 in The Heart.

The Eagles attacked the Ravens right from the opening whistle Wednesday evening. This plan payed off for CMU, as Adrian Gutierrez (SO/Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain) scored in the game's fourth minute to give CMU the early 1-0 lead.

Benedictine would respond later in the first half, when Galen Gossman sent in a free kick that was headed in by Calum James to tie the game at 1-1. The Eagles would respond less than a minute later, when Vitor Maia (SO/Salvador, Brazil) buried a shot into the back of the net to put the Eagles back on top 2-1. CMU would carry the 2-1 lead into halftime.

In the second half, Benedictine responded in the second minute of play, when Daniel Barry sent a free kick into the box, and Bryan Johnson headed it in to tie the game at 2-2.

The score would remain tied at 2-2, until there were two minutes and ten seconds left in the match. Following a missed shot by CMU, the Ravens took the ball down field in 40 seconds, Calum James passed to Rauiri Cotter, who put his shot past Eagles' goalie Cameron Metcalfe (SO/Durham, England) to give the Ravens a 3-2 advantage. Benedictine would hold off the Eagles in the final two minutes to claim the 3-2 victory.

The Eagles close out the regular season at home this Saturday against Mount Mercy University. Saturday's match is scheduled to begin at 7:30pm at Davis Field. It is Homecoming Weekend at Central and it will be Senior Night for the Eagles as well.
