Fayette, Mo. – The Central Methodist University men's soccer team got off to a slow start on Wednesday evening, before rallying for five second half goals to defeat Tabor College by a final of 5-0 at Davis Field.
With the victory, Central Methodist improves to 2-0-1 on the season, while Tabor College begins the year 0-1.
"We are proud of the result tonight on the scoreboard," said CMU head men's soccer coach Alex Nichols. "There are a lot of positives to take from the game tonight on the soccer end and character end. However, there are also a lot of life lessons to be learned from tonight's game from poor choices that we made. Soccer and sports in general involve so many life lessons and we will learn as a team, make positive adjustments as a team, and grow from the negatives tonight and continue building on the positives."
The first 45 minutes came and went with little action. Both teams displayed their hard-nose defenses and played to a 0-0 tie.
The second half was another story, as the teams combined for eight cards and Central Methodist scored five unanswered goals to route the Blue Jays 5-0. Gui Gallucci (SR/Sao Paulo, Brazil) netted two goals, while David Hillmann (SO/London, England) chimed in with a goal and an assist.
For the third straight game, Cameron Metcalfe (SO/Durham, England) pitched a shutout and moved his record to 2-0-1 on the season.
CMU returns to action Saturday, when they host 25th ranked Hastings College. Saturday's match is schedule to begin at 5pm from Davis Field.
